How do I search for a job on Adcaster?

You can do a quick search for a job by using the search bar at the top left of the homepage. To achieve better search results we recommend using the job search tool which is located underneath the search bar at the top left of the Adcaster homepage.

To start searching for a job, enter a location or postcode in which you are seeking employment and then click 'Search', you will then be asked to fill in the following fields:

  • 'Distance' - The distance (in miles) from your selected location of which you are willing to travel.
  • 'Job Category' - Choose your desired occupation field from the drop-down menu (certain job vacancies may overlap, for example retail job listings may be listed in the sales category. We recommend adding keywords to your search in these instances).
  • Perm/Contract - Choose whether you are looking for a permanent position or a limited time contract
  • 'Salary' - Chose your desired salary from the drop-down menu.
  • 'Keywords' - In the keywords section you can type in any other relevant information (eg. a specific job title).

It is not a requirement to fill in all of the search fields, but the more information you provide, the more we can narrow down your search (note. if your search is not returning any results, try filling in less information to broaden your search). When you have finished, click 'Search'.

The page will then populate with applicable job positions, displayed as boxes with the video title, and a description of the position they are advertising. You can scroll through the pages by clicking 'Prev' or 'Next' at the bottom of the page. To view a job advertisement, simply click on a box and it's information will the be displayed on the page.

The advertisement will contain a video, which you can watch by pressing the (play) button (If you are encountering problems playing videos, click here).

Information about the job position is displayed on the right hand side of the video.

If you want to change your search location, you can do so at any time by clicking the change button in the search tool, or by clicking the blue 'Jobs' button at the top of the page.

When I search for a location on Adcaster, I get the message "Please enter a valid postcode or location" What can I do?

The Adcaster search facility includes most towns and cities in the UK. However if you receive the message "Please enter a valid postcode or location", you have either entered an invalid postcode or Adcaster does not recognise the placename you entered. Try typing the name of a different town or city or your postcode. Be sure to check the spelling of the placename you have entered. If this does not return any results, please contact us by emailing info@adcaster.co.uk, or clicking here.

return to top

Do you list any jobs outside of the UK?

At present, Adcaster only advertise vacancies within the UK.

return to top

Why don't all the jobs have full details and videos?

Adcaster encourages every employer advertising on the site to provide as much information as possible, however sometimes a company does not have the opportunity to create a video or write a full description. In these cases we recommend you contact the advertiser directly using the information they provide.

return to top

How can I get more focused search results?

With the Search tool, try changing your keywords, choosing a different but similar job category, or reducing the 'Distance' category from the location.

return to top

Why aren't there more results in my search?

Try including fewer keywords, or remove keywords from your search, also try changing the 'Salary' and 'Perm/Contract' fields to 'Any' and increasing the 'Distance'.

Does Adcaster ensure the reputability of the companies who post listings?

We want our users to have a safe job search environment. Adcaster's Term of Use prohibits the posting of any bogus job listings and aims to ensure that every job listing is genuine. If it is brought to our attention that a company is asking a candidate to participate in any fraudulent or illegal activity, then Adcaster will remove these job postings. Adcaster acts as a free platform for employers to post job listings and for candidates to apply to those listings. It is the decision of the candidate to decide whether they want to pursue a job opportunity, based on their interactions with the company. Please use your own discretion with regards to the distribution of your personal information.

When I apply for a job, how will you contact me?

When you have applied for a position, we will send you a confirmation email that your information has been received by the employer. It is then up to the employer to email you (or call you if you have supplied a telephone number). Each company has their own method for evaluating CV's. A small company may send a personalised response indicating that your CV was received. Many larger companies have automated email replies. Some companies do not acknowledge the receipt of a CV unless they want to initiate the interview process. You can contact the company directly using the information they have provided in the listing. Adcaster will not contact you regarding the interview process.

  2. Allow www.adcaster.co.uk as a trusted site in your Firewall software.
  3. Ensure other applications like Quicktime, iTunes, Real Player, or Windows Media Player aren't set as the default streaming application, as this might affect the video player.

• Windows Vista users:

  2. Right-click on the following file: FlashUtil9b.exe or FlashUtil9e.exe
  3. Select "Run as Administrator" and install the update.
  4. Restart your computer.

Problems uploading

If your video does not upload, or is taking an excessively long time to upload, it may contain unsupported codecs or errors. Use the software in the table "Recommended Conversion software" below to convert your video file.

If you are experiencing problems playing your video after it has uploaded (audio and video out of sync / video not playing) then please contact or technical team by clicking here.

It can take from a couple minutes to an hour for your video to upload to Adcaster. If you're receiving an error with your upload, make sure you're attempting to upload a file that's recognised by Adcaster. We accept video files from most digital cameras, camcorders and mobile phones. Accepted formats include:

.AVI .MPG .FLV .MOV .MPEG
.MP4 .RM .M2V .WMV .3GP

The larger the file size of your video, the longer it will take to upload. Adcaster recommends an upload speed of at least 100 kilobytes per second (broadband connection). The maximum filesize we accept is 90mb, however we recommend uploading files which are less than 15mb.

Best video formats & optimisation
Video
Resolution Original resolution of your video.
Aspect Ratio Preferred 4:3 aspect ratio. Adcaster does not auto-rotate video files. Make sure you film and upload your video in landscape format.
Bit rate Because bit-rate is highly dependent on codec there is no recommended or minimum value. Videos should be optimized for resolution, aspect ratio and frame rate rather than bit rate.
Frame rate The frame rate of the original video should be maintained without re-sampling. In particular pulldown and other frame rate re-sampling techniques are strongly discouraged.
Codec H.264 or MPEG-2 preferred.
Preferred containers FLV, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4
Audio
Codec MP3 or AAC preferred
Preferred containers FLV, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4
Sampling rate 44.1kHz
Channels 2 (stereo)
File Size Recommended less than 15mb. Maximum 90mb. Use the software specified in the table below to reduce file size.

Most basic video software issued with recording devices will include the option to reduce the filesize of your videos. If your software does not include this function, you may want to download one of the following applications to convert the file to a supported format.

Recommended Conversion Software
Windows XP: Windows Movie Maker

This is a free application that comes with Microsoft Windows XP. Download
Windows Vista & Windows 7: Windows Movie Maker

This is a free application that comes with Microsoft Windows Vista & Windows 7. Download
Mac OS X: MPEG Streamclip

This is a free application available for Mac OS X (10.2 and later) & Windows. Download

Aspect Ratio

The aspect ratio of the original source video should always be maintained when it's uploaded: Uploaded videos should never include letterboxing or pillarboxing bars.

The Adcaster player automatically adds black bars so that videos are displayed correctly without cropping or stretching, whatever the size of the video or the player. For example, the player will automatically add horizontal bars (letterboxing) to 16:9 videos. If pillarboxing is added to a video before it is uploaded (to create a 4:3 video from a 16:9 master for example), the player will add letterbox bars too, resulting in black bars all around the video (windowboxing) and a bad viewing experience (see the diagram below).

   How to do it

Upload video in 4:3 format Video displays perfectly!

Upload video in 16:9 format Video displays in Adcaster player at the right ratio with letterbox bars

      How not to do it

Don't add your own pillarbox bars so that the widescreen video fits a 4:3 player Adcaster adds letterbox bars to fit the original video

Don't film your video in portrait (be careful with mobile phones!) Video will always display in landscape mode

Accepted Written CV formats:

  • .PDF
  • .DOC
  • .DOCX

Although Adcaster accepts the file formats: '.DOCX' and '.PDF', we recommend uploading written CV's in '.DOC' format, as this is the most widely viewable format.

Supported image formats for slideshow graphic and logo

  • .JPG
  • .JPEG
